THE GOLDEN AGE
The Golden Age is a visual and sound exploration of milk at the crossroads of gender and species. It departs from Vermeer’s iconic painting The Milkmaid to trace the early development of the Argentine dairy industry. The female figure is at the center of this narrative where labor and migration, cows and national imaginaries come together to show the longstanding entanglements between humans and animals. The piece follows the imperceptible threads that reunite the Golden Age of Dutch painting in the 17th century with Argentine industrialization in the 19th and 20th centuries. By following the route of Dutch urban migrants into the Argentine countryside, the video highlights how seemingly disparate historical moments become reunited through the materiality of milk and the invisibilized role of female labor.
